Draconian seatbealt laws: A way to further control the populace.

Today in New Hampshire's Union Leader, a local NH newspaper they carried this article: http://www.unionleader.com/article.aspx?headline=Seatbelt+bill+hits+bump+in+the+road&articleId=18fd5ab8-af13-4756-a450-b55ea5da4860. It basically goes through how NH is the last state to really pass a comprehensive and restrictive seatbelt law like the rest of the union. I say: "Maybe I should move to NH." Live free or die has a nice ring to it and frankly, if I want to die in an auto accident because I didn't wear a seatbelt so be it.

Isn't anybody else sick of the Safety Nazi's in this country? The advent of seatbelt laws are just another example of government intrusion into our lives.
Seatbelt laws are so common in other states there is currently now a national campaign to do roadside stops to see if everybody is in line with the ridiculous big brother type law. It's another example of the same culture that brandishes the DSM-IV wherever they go trying to modify the behavior of the world based on pseudo science and slogans. We can't stop abortions in this country legally, but no can light up at a bar or not put on their seatbelt, God forbid.
I herald the so called "backward" ways of NH. I hope it doesn't pass. These laws are no being used to do roadside checks, which are infringing on civil rights as well. Said to be used to check if you're being safe these roadside checks are nothing more than a new maneuver by the police class and state in this country. Not only is revenue rolling in from these offenses in municipalities all over the country, but it's a way for police to cover their ass if they want to pull over whomever they please. If everything turns out OK at least they can give you a seatbelt ticket as to not incriminate their racial profiling or meddling in regular people's affairs.

In essence, they can use small draconian, ridiculous laws like smoking in the car and seatbelt violations to catch people who forgot to renew their registration and hand out more tickets, thus gaining more revenue and power of the citizenry. This is combined with the continuing phenomenon of the militarization of the police forces in this country. Starting in the 1970's after the race riots and war protests of the 60's police have received varying levels of military training, SWAT was the first example of this. To some extent this type of mobilization was necessary, but I venture to say that any large scale disturbance should be handled by community forces picked from the ranks of the local National Guard.

I disagree with all provisions like the seatbelt laws. I think they are capricious violations of basic rights. What's truly angering about the issue is that the government will restrict the life of every citizen but won't restrict litigiousness of individuals that truly spurn these laws. Safety isn't the issue, lawsuits are. Family members die and people get pissed and they sue auto manufacturers etc. instead of accepting fate and the choice of their loved ones not wearing a seatbelt. They should restrict the ability of people to sue in such circumstances, but that will never happen, we all have to pay with our freedom, even if it is to be reckless. Heck that's our God given right, the right to choose to be safe or not. The government's only concerned with saving lives if it creates revenue or serves to control the populace at large. Large scale environmental pollution killing millions a day and countless abortions don't matter, but "click it or ticket". Give me a break.
