With the pending indictment of the proverbial hatchet man of Dick Cheney, I started to go through my own thoughts on the matter from every thing to Yellow cake to Valerie Plame's secret spy status. In sum this guy took the axe for Dick, well Dick Cheney that is. Is it truly possible that Dick is covering his tracks and Lewis Libby needed to take one for the team? Possibly, but one thing lingers on, where is the direct evidence? How can you obtain evidence in a climate of fear and one of extreme secrecy for the Bush Administration as a whole? Although there is no direct evidence, there is a heap of circumstantial evidence. This should be enough should Scooter start to talk once he realizes he's going up for 15 years and no chance of pardon. Will Scooter spill the beans? If so I believe you have the genesis of either an impeachment trial or criminal conviction after the thieves are out of office.
Truly, if one domino falls it sometimes stands that they all will, as seen in the Watergate affair. Even with the paltry convictions and defections resulting from Iran Contra, I think this holds more weight due to the connection with the Iraq war. Although impeachment or any sort of censure type action on the President or the Vice President is still a far fetched prospect, steam is developing for Cheney's impeachment more so than G W Bush, who in my opinion is simply a co-conspirator with Dick Cheney and the unforeseen unelected officials who truly carry on the business of this government. The lack of any true effort to remove these September criminals is astounding. Time and time again they have violated basic principles in the rule of US law, but they have made money for a lot of people, enough to keep the media bought off and any true criticism zipped up. In fact the mainstream press ridiculed the entire case, never once making mention on how a perjury charge can break the cookie jar at the Bush Whitehouse wide open. With the enormousness of the Iraq war issue, Bush may be hard pressed to issue a pardon.
Libby had such cozy relationships with many of those in the press that many in the press corp. thought, "I feel so sorry for Scooter." This for a man who called for the invasion of third world countries, the wholesale murder of thousands, and war at any cost; this for a man who signed the PNAC document, don't feel sorry for Lewis Libby. Just like Al Capone was hit with a tax evasion charge so too was I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby hit with a perjury charge to crack something open or at least get one conviction from those violent freaks: the Neocons. I think Fitzgerald knows what he is doing; this is the scab that needs to be picked to uncover the festering infection in the seats of this country's government. Will Libby turn, I venture to say no, I mean we're not dealing with rat extraordinaire John Dean, but he is a lawyer and he will take a good deal if he sees one.
Bush and Cheney better hope that it's a quiet case and a pardon, but with the political climate and increasing animosity from the press Bush may find it difficult to issue one for Scooter. Fitzgerald has said there will be no further convictions on this case, and for now he's right, that is until he can get Lewis to turn witness.
